Did you know?
Did you know that Concord Regional Airport handled over 400 Boeing 737-800 series aircraft operations for the NASCAR teams last season without losing one piece of luggage? These aircraft weigh between 115,000 and 154,000 pounds, and can carry as many as 134 passengers. The 737-800 aircraft is about 125 feet long, has a wing span of 117 feet, the top of its tail is 41 feet off the ground. The aircraft can hold a maximum of 6,875 gallons of fuel. Â
Viva Verde Earth Fest THIS WEEKEND!
The third annual Viva Verde Earth Fest (a partnership between Concord, Kannapolis, and Cabarrus County) will be 10:00-3:00 on Saturday, April 14 at North Cabarrus Park. VVEF is a festival in honor of Earth Day that celebrates nature and environmental stewardship, providing opportunities for environmental education in a fun, family-friendly way! There will be information booths, live music, recycling opportunities, games, and more. Be sure to check out the event’s Facebook page; information is also available on the concordnc.gov.Â

City updates Blackboard Connectâ„¢ service
After several years of use, the City of Concord has updated its Blackboard Connectâ„¢ service to provide enhanced communications options to residents and enable community leaders to reach the public more quickly and effectively, helping keep them safe and better informed. Blackboard Connect enables officials to quickly deliver critical messages, including emergency alerts and important announcements, via phone, text, and email. Concord is holding a community-wide data drive, encouraging residents to verify and register their contact information in the system’s secure Connect Access Portal, where they can also manage their message settings, including their preferred language and mode of contact. Visit concordnc.gov for details. Concord Youth Council new member application available
The City of Concord Youth Council is currently accepting applications for the 2012-13 school year. All rising ninth through eleventh graders residing in Cabarrus County and attending a public, private, or home school are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is May 11, 2012.
