CONCORD – The City of Concord Fire and Life Safety Department will hold its ninth Patriot’s Day Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at Fire Station 8. The annual ceremony was initiated in September 2002 to remember the heroes of September 11, 2001.
The event takes place at Station 8, which was the first fire station to open in Concord after September 11, 2001. The Station has a permanent monument and plaque in memory of those that were lost.
Even though the event’s purpose is to remember and honor those who departed nine years ago, there are heroes that continue to sacrifice their lives while serving our country. Concord’s own James Fleet McClamrock was killed in action Tuesday while serving with the U.S. Army in Iraq. The City is grateful for his sacrifice and offers its condolences to his family.
Friday’s ceremony will feature a mixed-agency honor guard, bell-ringing, laying of a wreath at the Station 8 monument, and music from the Concord Fire Department Pipes and Drums. Battalion Captain Ed Shaver of the Department of Fire and Life Safety is coordinating the event.
In addition to Concord’s public safety departments, other local agencies have been invited, including:
Cabarrus County Emergency Management
Cabarrus County EMS
Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Department
Concord High School Fire Academy
Harrisburg Fire Department
Kannapolis Police Department
Kannapolis Fire Department
In addition, the Mayor, Members of City Council, City Manager, and other City staff will be in attendance.
The event is open to the public.
Fire Station 8 is located at 1485 Old Charlotte Road in Concord, near the intersection of Old Charlotte Road and NC Highway 49.
