Second Chance leaf collection available February 6-17
Thursday, February 02, 2012

CONCORD – The City of Concord’s Solid Waste Services Department completed its final week of free loose leaf collection on Friday, February 3. Each resident in the City was offered three opportunities to have loose leaves collected curbside since October 24.

However, the Second Chance collection program is available for residents across the City who were not able to get leaves to the curb during leaf season and are willing to pay $75 for a special collection. The program will be available weekdays from February 6-17. To participate, residents can call the Customer Care Center at 704-920-5555. Second Chance collections will be scheduled on a first come, first served basis, and the City will only schedule as many collections as one loose leaf crew can provide during the two-week time period.
Loose leaf season ends for each resident the moment the leaf crew passes in front of their house during their final scheduled week of loose leaf season. After that moment, residents with leftover leaves must either schedule a Second Chance collection or comply with the pre-collection requirements in the Solid Waste Collection and Disposal Ordinance that apply under normal conditions. The ordinance says that yard waste (loose leaves, grass clippings, and trimmings 12 inches in length or less) must be placed in untied, clear plastic or biodegradable paper bags and placed by the curb for collection. Leftover loose leaves still at the curbside after loose leaf season and not scheduled for a Second Chance collection are subject to City Code Enforcement violations and associated fines.
Residents are urged to use caution when placing loose leaves by the curb for collection. Loose leaves should be kept away from storm drains and mail boxes, and must be free of limbs, rocks, or metal objects. Piles of leaves contaminated with these materials will not be collected.
Please contact the Customer Care Center at 704-920-5555 with any questions or to schedule a Second Chance collection.
