COMMUNITY NEWS

Deadline extended for Concord Public Safety Academy applications
Tuesday, February 07, 2012

CONCORD – The City of Concord has extended the application deadline for the Public Safety Academy until 5:00 p.m. on Thursday February, 9. Space is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.

“The City of Concord believes in creating partnerships with the citizens who live and work in our community,” said City Manager Brian Hiatt.  “We believe this partnership keeps our quality of life at a high level and allows us to provide the best municipal services possible.”

The 2012 course will be the sixth giving residents and business owners the opportunity to interact first-hand with staff members in the Concord Communications, Fire and Life Safety, and Police Departments. This course will allow citizens to learn about the functions of Concord’s public safety departments, meet staff, and help us evaluate the services the City provides.

The ten-week academy runs from February 13 until April 16.  Consecutive classes will be held each Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Four classes will be taught by the Concord Department of Fire and Life Safety and will include presentations on the various services provided as well as how everyone can be safer in their daily lives.

The Concord Police Department will facilitate four classes on all functions of the organization and give an in-depth look at its community policing philosophy.

One class will be presented the Concord’s Communications Department and will explain what happens when you call 911 or request any service from the public safety departments.  The tenth week will be a graduation dinner to honor academy participants.

For an application, visit concordnc.gov/Resident/Public-Safety-Academy or contact Leslie Griffin at or 704-920-5007.
