CONCORD – Renovations are underway at the City of Concord's Hartsell Recreation Center. The facility closed following the final summer playground session on August 12 and is scheduled to reopen in the summer of 2017, with renovated exercise, fitness, and multi-purpose rooms available to the public.
The facility was the historical site of Hartsell High School’s gym and classrooms, and was purchased by the City in 1994 for use by the Parks and Recreation Department.
Customers are encouraged to visit one of the City's other recreation centers while work is taking place at Hartsell. The Academy Center is located at 147 Academy Avenue NW, and the Logan Center is located at 184 Booker Street SW. Both of these facilities have athletic, exercise, and meeting facilities available.
The public should note that the Academy Center's gym will be closed from August 14-22 while new basketball goals are installed. Other areas and programs at the Academy Center will remain available.
This project is the latest in a series of capital improvements to the City's Parks and Recreation facilities. In recent years, major renovations have been completed at the Academy and Logan Centers, along with new outdoor recreation options such as the Hector H. Henry II, Greenway and the Weddington Road Bark Park.
The City's recreation centers are open to the public weekdays from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays from noon until 5:00 p.m. To learn more about affordable ways to stay active and healthy in Concord, visit concordparksandrec.org or call 704-920-5600.
