Historic District Handbook Update

The Historic Districts in the City of Concord are a source of great pride and an asset to our community.  We recognize the important part these districts play in our history and strive to preserve their unique characters. The Historic District Handbook was written in 1993 and updated in 2001 and 2015.  It was developed as a resource to aid property owners in the districts, as well as, architects, builders, landscape architects, realtors and others who are involved with any project that will have an impact on any property or structure within the districts.

With the last significant update being in 2015, City of Concord planning staff and the Historic Preservation Commission recognized the need for changes. Beginning in October 2022, the Handbook Committee, made up of a mix of a few members of the Historic Preservation Commission and volunteers from the community, met monthly to review and suggest changes to the current handbook. The resulting draft has a more modern look, with more photographs, fresh illustrations and clarifying text.
