Highlights of the June 14 City Council Meeting

Received a presentation by NCDOT on the project to widen of Mallard Creek Rd/Odell School Rd and associated intersection improvements at the Concord Mills Blvd and Derita Rd intersection, as well as other area projects (Work Session only).

Presented retirement plaques to Ronald D. Ferrell - 17 years of service, Police; and Norman Franklin - 31 years of service, Fire.

Presented the Top 100 Fleets Award for 2018 to Fleet Services.

Presented a certificate of appreciate to outgoing CDDC Executive Director Diane Young.

Continued a public hearing and adopted an ordinance for annexation of property located at 10560 Harris Road owned by Wallace Brothers Holding Co LLC.

Conducted a public Hearing and approved a rezoning of property located at 486 Union Street S and 489 Spring Street SW from Residential Medium Density (RM-2) to Planned Unit Development (PUD) - (Case Z-CD-08-18).

Conducted public hearings and adopted ordinances for annexation of: +/- 32.77 acres located on the south side of Warren C. Coleman Blvd., owned by the City of Concord; and +/- 3.88 acres located at 3030 Derita Road, owned by Odell School Highway Investment Traders, LLC.

Conducted a public hearing pursuant to N.C. General Statute 159-12 to consider public comments relative to the proposed FY 2018-2019 budget for the City of Concord, and adopted an ordinance to adopt the budget as recommended.

Adopted a resolution declaring the 2005 Surrey Fire Safety Trailer as surplus and donating the equipment to Odell Fire and Rescue.

Recognized the Hampden Village Homeowners Association into the City's Partnership for Stronger Neighborhoods program.

Named the street leading to the Brown Operations Center Al Brown Jr. Court SW.

Made the following Board and Commission reappointments and reclassifications: Todd Phillips to the ABC Board; Debbie Norman and William Isenhour to the Planning & Zoning Commission; Ceasar Correa to regular member status on the Board of Adjustment; Brian Floyd to regular member status on the Historic Preservation Commission; Douglas Williams to the Stormwater Management Advisory Committee; City Manager Lloyd Payne to the CDDC Board of Directors; and

The following new appointments: Eric Williamson as an alternate member to the Planning & Zoning Commission; James McDonald as an alternate member to the Board of Adjustment; Jim Ramseur, Carolyn Coggins, and Richard Millan as regular members on the Historic Preservation Commission; and Scott Elliott as an alternate member; Don Seitz as a Member At-Large on the Stormwater Management Advisory Committee.

City of Concord included among 69 drinking water treatment plants honored by NCDEQ
The City of Concord’s water treatment plants were recognized by the NC Department of Environmental Quality for meeting the goals of the Area Wide Optimization Program (AWOP) for calendar year 2017. “I am very proud of your hard work to achieve this award, which ultimately leads to greater public health protection,” said Mark Hahn, NCDEQ Senior Environmental Specialist in a message to awardees in the region covered by the NCDEQ Mooresville office. “Please keep up the great work; we realize that this level of treatment doesn’t just happen without a lot of forethought and attention to detail.  I want to thank you and your staff for meeting these more stringent water treatment goals. ”Awardees will be recognized at the upcoming NCWOA meeting on Thursday, June 21 in Shelby. Find out more at deq.nc.gov.

Concord Fire Department welcomes new Ladder 7 to the fleet
The Concord Fire Department's newest addition to the fleet is a replacement apparatus for Ladder 7, which arrived in 2005. The new Pierce Arrow-XT with a 100-foot aerial platform is now in service after crews have been trained to use its new features to serve the community. Ladder 7's crew is based at Fire Station 7 on International Drive. Learn more on the Concord Public Safety Facebook Page.
