Did you know?
Did you know fallen leaves can cause problems? If not managed properly, they can clog drain pipes, causing flooding. They can also contribute to nutrient pollution and oxygen depletion in nearby bodies of water. Please take special care to keep leaves clear of storm drains when placing them out for loose collection during Loose Leaf Season. City service crews always continue to collect bagged leaves year round. Remember to place by the curb in untied paper or clear plastic bags. Tree bands are ready for sticky Tanglefoot material
Have you noticed all the black bands around trees on North Union Street or the McEachern Greenway and not known why you’re seeing them? The black bands help prevent cankerworms from hatching in the spring. These little crawlers, which migrated into Cabarrus County over the last few years, can be a big pest. The weather turned colder last weekend, which makes now the appropriate time to move into the next phase of the tree banding process. Learn more at the City Hall Blog.

Tips for a safe holiday season
Many homes and businesses across Concord are already decorated for Christmas. While decorations bring cheer to the holiday season, they also present a safety risk. According to the National Fire Protection Association and the U.S. Fire Administration, an estimated 240 home fires involving Christmas trees and another 150 home fires involving lights and other decorative material occur each year in the United States. Visit the City Hall Blog to for safety tips that will help you while decorating and while out and about for shopping.

Concord 101 is designed to inform citizens about their local government. Participants met on Tuesday nights and learned about what it takes to run City services such as solid waste and recycling, public utilities, police, fire, parks and recreation, and more. Visit concordnc.gov for more details.

Monday loose leaf collection next week
Solid Waste’s annual loose leaf collection season continues through February 1. Due to volume and logistical challenges, loose leaves are normally collected from each area every 3-4 weeks. Bagged leaves are collected on a weekly basis on the same day as your garbage.

Customers on the MONDAY garbage collection routes must have leaves at the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday, December 3 for crews to collect them during the second collection cycle. Download the 2012-13 schedule at concordnc.gov.
