Deputy Fire Chief Ray Allen completes Municipal Administration Course
Congratulations to Deputy Fire Chief Ray Allen, who successfully completed the 2012-2013 Municipal Administration Course of the UNC School of Government. The 150-hour program is designed for managers, department heads, and officials whose responsibilities require a broad understanding of municipal functions. Ray Allen was one of 98 officials who graduated from the course this year and is one of more than 2900 officials who have completed the course since it began in 1954. Law Day will honor local law enforcement officers
Local law enforcement officers will be honored Friday, May 3 when Law Day is observed throughout the United States. The public is invited to Cabarrus County's Law Day at 10:45 a.m. in the Cabarrus County Governmental Center at 65 Church Street in Concord. The program is focused on the development of law in this country and honors those who are entrusted with enforcing it. The Robert Jackson Eury Memorial Award also will be presented to a deserving veteran law enforcement officer serving Cabarrus County. Free car seat check planned for Friday May 3
Area parents can have child safety seats installed and checked by certified professionals at no charge in Concord next Friday. The City of Concord Department of Fire and Life Safety and Safe Kids Cabarrus are providing a special car seat check station at Kmart on Friday, May 3 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. The store is located at 545 Concord Parkway North, at the intersection with Poplar Tent Road. Spring Into Arts Festival features visual and performing artists
Celebrate our vibrant arts community at the Spring Into Arts Festival from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, May 4 on Union Street in Historic Downtown Concord. This day-long arts event provides local and regional performing and visual artists an opportunity to show, share knowledge, demonstrate, sell their work, and perform. There will be children's art activities, musical performances, a display of fine art for sale, and food offered for sale by food vendors and local restaurants. The event is free and open to all ages. Family Fishing Derby May 4 at Lake Fisher Reservoir
The "Family Fishing Derby" is a program designed to give families, parents, and children the opportunity to enjoy the fun of fishing. The derby is a half-day event beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday May 4 at Lake Fisher Reservoir. You may pre-register by visiting one of the Recreation Centers or online at Pre-registration for the derby will continue until 5:00 p.m. on May 3.
Concord Youth Council seeking new members for 2013-14
Concord Youth Council is a service-oriented organization for high school students, requiring participation in programs year-round and attendance at bi-monthly meetings during the school year. Membership in Youth Council is very competitive. Students entering grades 9-11 for the 2013-14 school year who attend a public, private, or home school within the Cabarrus County School district or are a City of Concord resident are eligible to apply. Applications are due May 3, 2013. Interested applicants are encouraged to attend a meeting before applying to learn what is expected of members (see the meeting calendar). Learn more at
