City of Concord works to ensure a safe experience for race fans
NASCAR is home again with the festivities surrounding the Sprint All-Star Race and next weekend's annual running of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The City of Concord is proud to welcome the hundreds of thousands of visitors who come to explore motorsports-related events, attractions, and behind-the-scenes tours. Visit to learn about what the City of Concord does to welcome race fans to our community.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), North Carolina State Highway Patrol, and the City of Concord partner with Charlotte Motor Speedway to ease travel for fans heading to and from the races. Visit for tips.

Coca-Cola Recycle & Win partnership launched in Cabarrus
Coca-Cola Recycle & Win, the nationally recognized sustainability initiative which began in Charlotte in 2009, is back and has been expanded beyond Mecklenburg County into Cabarrus County. Coca-Cola Consolidated, Harris Teeter, Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, Concord, Kannapolis and Harrisburg have joined forces to promote recycling by offering consumers the reward of a $50 Harris Teeter gift card for recycling properly. Residents will receive more information soon, and the prize patrol will hit the road beginning the week of June 17.
Race fans staying at one of seven designated campgrounds at Charlotte Motor Speedway can also get in on the “get rewarded for recycling” action this year by placing aluminum cans and plastic bottles in blue recycling bags provided at campground check in. Fans “caught” by the Coca-Cola Recycling Patrol doing this good deed will be rewarded with $25 in Speedway Bucks good at any CMS concession stand. Learn more at
APA-NC presents NC Great Main Street People's Choice award at Union Street Live
In March, Concord's historic Union Street was voted first place in the Great Main Street People's Choice competition! The North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA-NC) hosted the competition to celebrate great places in North Carolina, and the communities that sustain them. NCDOT plans lane and ramp closures on I-85 at NC 73 (Exit 55) beginning Sunday night
The NC Department of Transportation will be working with contractor Lane Construction at the I-85 interchange with N.C. 73 (Exit 55) beginning at 11 p.m. Sunday, May 19, weather permitting. Demolition of the existing bridge will require intermittent lane and ramp closures in both directions to keep motorists and workers safe. This work is part of the 6.8-mile I-85 widening project, improving I-85 from four to eight lanes from south of Bruton Smith Boulevard (Exit 49) to north of N.C. 73. Lane and ramp closures will take place from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night through Wednesday morning, May 22. Visit for more information.

Affordable rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats available May 19-25

Concord Housing to host writers' workshop
Yes, there really is a book in you! Make your voice heard, share your life experiences, and inspire others. Bring light to a certain cause, or simply leave a message for your children, grandchildren and future generations. Nellie A. Wosu, international author and speaker will present a two-day workshop on Wednesday and Thursday, May 22-23 at the Neighborhood Network Technology Center located at 265 Salem Street.
