City of Concord to observe Memorial Day
In observance of Memorial Day, City of Concord offices will be closed on Monday, May 27. Garbage, recycling, and bulky waste collection by Waste Pro will operate on a one day delay, with Monday's items collected on Tuesday, and Friday’s items collected on Saturday. However, all customers are asked to place yard waste at the curb by 7 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28. All yard waste will be collected by the end of the day Friday, May 31. Utility work resumes on Old Charlotte Road
City of Concord Water Resources crews have resumed utility repairs on Old Charlotte Road beginning Tuesday, May 21. The repair project was delayed in early April. Motorists traveling on Old Charlotte Road should be aware of the work zone detour through the end of May, weather permitting. Visit concordnc.gov for more details.
 
National Public Works Week
The City of Concord honors those who work in professions that provide and maintain public facilities and services during National Public Works Week, from May 19 through 25, 2013. Activities and programs were across the country to celebrate the contributions of public works professionals as well as the communities they serve. These professionals are, in short, the people who maintain and improve the systems and services vital to a community’s health, safety, and comfort. Learn more at concordnc.gov.
 
CAF WWII Air Power History Tour at Concord Regional Airport
Take a trip back in time this weekend as historic World War II aircraft visit Concord Regional Airport. The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Air Power History Tour is at Concord Regional Airport all weekend through Monday, May 27. The tour features "FIFI," the world's only remaining flying B-29 Superfortress. For more information, visit airpowersquadron.org.
 
ISO rating improvement may lower commercial fire insurance rates
Commercial and industrial property owners in Concord are reminded to inquire with their insurance carriers about lower fire insurance rates effective June 1, 2013, when the City of Concord’s improved ISO rating of Class 2 will take effect. As a result of the recent evaluation by the N.C. Department of Insurance, many retail, commercial, and industrial businesses should see fire insurance rates fall by an average of five to eight percent. Residential rental property owners, which are considered commercial properties for insurance purposes, may also see lower rates. To find out more, visit concordnc.gov.

Youth soccer registration
Soccer registration for youth ages 3 to 15 will begin June 1 and continue through June 30. Registration is available at one of the three recreation centers weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., or any time at concordparksandrec.org.
