Did you know?
Did you know the City sponsors an annual Productivity Improvement Award to recognize outstanding departmental or team achievements? Improvements can be in efficiency; effectiveness; or money, time, or resources saved—anything that improves performance and service to customers. Last year the Police Department Telephone Reporting Unit and the Customer Service Division of Finance both received the award for their success in becoming more user-friendly in the services they provide. This award celebrates the City's core value of continuous improvement in services and programs. The 2014 award winner will be announced at the November 13 City Council meeting.

Holiday kickoff events are just around the corner
Mark your calendars for a weekend of fun and festivity starting with the City of Concord's 17th annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, November 21. Sponsored by Carolinas HealthCare System, Duke Energy, and Uwharrie Bank, the annual event will once again feature family entertainment, Santa, and fireworks! Activities begin at 6:00 and the Tree Lighting and fireworks are planned for 8:00. This year, the festivities return to the original location in Bicentennial Plaza. Visit concordnc.gov for details.

Monday loose leaf collection next week
Solid Waste’s annual loose leaf collection season continues next week with the second opportunity for residents on the Monday garbage collection route. Residents in this area must have leaves at the curb by 6 a.m. on Monday, November 10 for crews to collect them during the second collection cycle. Bagged leaves are collected year-round on a weekly basis, on the normal garbage and recycling collection day. Learn more and download the 2014-15 schedule at concordnc.gov.

City to recognize Veterans Day with historic Gamewell Diaphone
On Tuesday, November 11, the historic Gamewell Diaphone at Fire Station 1 will blast at 11:00 a.m. to honor all who have served in the United States armed forces. The City Council discontinued the daily sounding of the diaphone in July of this year, but retained the practice of sounding the device for certain annual events. The City of Concord thanks all those who have served, and plans a special event to honor City coworkers who are veterans on Monday, November 10. The City also encourages the public to attend Cabarrus County's dedication of Vietnam Veterans Park on Saturday, November 15.

Free community shredding event planned for November 15
A confidential document shredding and recycling event, hosted by Concord Solid Waste Services, is scheduled for Saturday, November 15 from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. in The Village parking lot (280 Concord Parkway N, behind Arby's). A shred truck will be onsite to serve Concord citizens, free of charge. Please limit your documents to three regular-sized trash bags or bankers boxes. Shredding sensitive documents is one way to reduce your risk of becoming an identity theft victim. Attend this free community shredding event to keep your personal information out of the hands of crooks.

Concord's Bravest versus Concord's Finest to meet on the gridiron
Concord Fire and Concord Police will meet at the Concord High School football stadium for the 7th annual Christmas Bowl on Saturday, November 15. Admission to Christmas Bowl VII is one new toy (no stuffed animals) that will be delivered to the Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital on Christmas Eve. The game kicks off at 7:00 p.m. so arrive early to get a good seat!

Citizens encouraged to provide feedback
The City of Concord is asking citizens to evaluate municipal services as well as their quality of life through the 2014 Customer Satisfaction Survey. The City hopes to gain feedback on a variety of topics such as municipal services, facilities, and how to best communicate with citizens. The survey will also assess specific functions, such as improved staffing levels in the Customer Care Center and the effectiveness of wireless location technology used for yard and bulky waste collection. The survey is available at concordnc.gov and in hard copy until Sunday, November 23. Visit concordnc.gov to learn more and get started.
