Flood safety and preparedness encouraged as Joaquin brings additional rain
While much uncertainty remains about the projected path of Hurricane Joaquin, our area can expect to receive several days of heavy rain and wind this weekend. With the ground already being saturated from the last week of rain, conditions are right for flooding to occur. The US National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC has already issued a flash flood watch in effect between Friday morning and Monday morning. Please visit concordnc.gov for important safety information.

City of Concord's United Way events to benefit community agencies
Thank you to the many who supported those most in need locally at today's City of Concord United Way cookout lunch. Several coworker-led special events remain, which benefit Cabarrus County's member agencies of United Way of Central Carolinas. In 2014, the City's coworker-led campaign raised over $26,000 of the $500,000 raised in Cabarrus County. In return, twenty-one Cabarrus County member agencies received over $1.2 million to help local individuals and families with multiple needs. Learn more at concordnc.gov.

Police offer additional place of worship security training opportunity
The Concord Police Department has announced a new training opportunity to help places of worship consider the security needs of their facilities and operations. The program is designed for clergy, lay leaders, worship staff, and anyone else responsible for the safety of their place of worship. In a free, one-hour session, attendees will understand the challenges and needs of worship security. Due to high demand an additional training opportunity has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m. Also, the initial session of the follow-up emergency preparedness program, which will be more comprehensive in scope, will take place on Monday, November 9. For more information, please visit concordnc.gov or call 704-920-5000 to register.
