Winter Weather and City services update
City services resumed normalcy today after this week's winter weather, with Rider Transit starting on time this morning, and solid waste collection beginning later in the morning once additional melting occurred. City Solid Waste crews have progressed through most of the City and will finish collecting yard waste (including this week's Loose Leaf schedule) on Saturday.


Waste Pro continues working to complete the Wednesday Garbage, Recycling, and Bulky waste routes today after starting their service around 11:00 a.m. Waste Pro will work as late as practical this evening; any areas of the Wednesday route that Waste Pro cannot reach today will be first on their list Saturday morning. Waste Pro anticipates completing collection for Thursday customers on Saturday, and Friday customers on Sunday.

2030 Land Use Plan draft available for public review
The City of Concord invites the public to review the draft of the document that will guide the development of the community over the next 10-15 years. The draft 2030 Land Use Plan is now available for review at The final plan will guide City officials as they develop future budgets, plan infrastructure and other services, make important land use decisions, and revise current policies within the Concord Development Ordinance. The draft documents also include a preliminary implementation schedule. It is anticipated that public hearings on the recommended plan will be held at Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council meetings in the coming months, but the dates have not been determined yet. What's Happening at ClearWater – new exhibit opens tonight!
ClearWater Artist Studios in Concord announces the 2nd annual faculty show of selected artworks by nine Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Fine Arts Department faculty members. The show is on view in the ClearWater Gallery now through the end of February. Loose leaf collection final cycle of this season in Tuesday route next week
Solid Waste's annual loose leaf collection continues next week, entering the final cycle of collection opportunities. This popular program provides each Concord resident three opportunities to have un-bagged leaves collected curbside through February 9. Bagged leaves are collected year-round on a weekly basis, on the normal garbage and recycling collection day. Customers on the TUESDAY garbage collection routes must have leaves at the curb by 6 a.m. on Monday, January 22 for crews to collect them during the third and final collection cycle. Be sure to attend community wide crime and safety briefing with Concord Police January 25
Concord Police invite you to the next Crime and Safety Briefing on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Forest Hill UMC Ministry Center (251 Union Street N), starting at 6:30 p.m. During the briefing the department will present Citywide crime statistics for calendar year 2017. This is an opportunity for residents to interact directly with members of the Concord Police Department and receive information regarding their neighborhoods. NCDOT announces completion of Piedmont Improvement Program
Hop on the train to experience firsthand the improvements between Charlotte and Raleigh with the completion of the NCDOT Piedmont Improvement Program. This series of 40 rail projects, that included station improvements, closures of street-level crossings and new bridges, have greatly increased safety for vehicle drivers and rail passengers. Additionally, the ability to more efficiently move freight traffic will help spur new economic development and job growth. You can learn more about this program at

Early bird deadline coming soon: apply now for Spring into Arts 2018
The 2018 Spring into Arts Festival is coming Saturday, May 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Downtown Concord. The festival attracts artists from across the region to its juried art show spanning a wide variety of media, including jewelry, ceramics, wood, painting, photography, glass, and textiles. The first deadline for applications is January 31. Applications received up to that date include an $85 fee, after January 31 the application fee is $110. Any artist who is not selected by the jury receives a full refund of their application fee.
