Presentation of the Security Industry Alarm Coalition's Directors Award of Distinction for Excellence in Alarm Management to the Police and Communications Departments by Glen Mowrey.

Presented the 2018 Jo Atwater Continuous Core Values Award to LeDerick Blackburn in the Planning and Neighborhood Development Department.
This is the highest award presented to City of Concord coworkers. Jo Atwater's life was synonymous with heartfelt service to others in our community and the highest dedication to our organizational core values. Jo worked for the City from 1994 until her passing in 2004. During this time, she became a respected friend and inspirational teammate to all coworkers. This award continues Jo's vibrant spirit and valued legacy by annually recognizing one coworker that embodies our organizational core values and commitment to serving others in the community. Conducted a public hearing and adopted an ordinance for rezoning from Residential Compact (RC) to Office Institutional - Conditional District (OI-CD) (Case Z-CD-20-17) for property located at 216 Patterson Ave, SE and 27, 42, & 45 Ashlyn Dr, SE.

Continued a public hearing and adopted an ordinance for annexation of three parcels located on the west side of Flowes Store Road, owned by Gary Medlin and Jamie Hedrick.

Conducted a public hearing and adopted an ordinance for annexation of one parcel located on the west side of NC Hwy 601 S (PIN 5539-81-9215), owned by Patricia Clark and Hal Hartsell Jr.

Conducted a public hearing and adopted an ordinance for annexation of +/- 4.6 acres on the south side of Ellenwood Rd, owned by Shim and Florence Boyd.

Conducted a public hearing and adopted an ordinance for annexation of +/- 15.078 acres located on the southeast side of Harris Rd and southwest side of Poplar Tent Rd, owned by Dwayne, Mamie, and Alan Hensley.

Approved a request from Concord Downtown Development Corporation (CDDC) to co-sponsor the 2018 Spring Into Arts Festival by providing in-kind services and liability insurance for the event.

Adopted Mayor and City Council operating principles, City Council goals for FY 2018-2019, and the 2018 Federal Legislative Agenda and State Legislative Priorities documents.

Adopting procedures for the purpose of negotiating the extension or assignment of existing non-commercial hanger leases at the Concord Regional Airport.

Authorized the City Manager to negotiate and execute a lease agreement with Pirate Aire, LLC for the purpose of assuming the remainder of the existing lease term currently held by MM Hanger, LLC and extending that term in accordance with newly established policy and procedure.

Approved an Employment Agreement with Lloyd Payne.

Take Donnie Avenue NW to Pancake Day next week
Are you excited about Concord's favorite Day at the Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County next week? This year, you'll be able to arrive at Pancake Day via Donnie Avenue NW. Donnie Avenue NW is a one-way street that connects Union Street N to Spring Street NW approaching the Boys & Girls Club campus. Officials celebrated the renamed Donnie Avenue NW on Thursday, March 1. In December 2017, the City Council voted to rename the section of Elm Avenue NW between Union Street N and Spring Street NW in honor of Donnie Whittington, long-time club athletic director who passed away in 2012. Whittington devoted his life to coaching and championing youth sports in Cabarrus County for 55 years. Find out more on the City's Facebook page.

How Will Federal Housing Funds Help Your Community?
Every year, the City of Concord develops a plan for how it will use federal funding received from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership programs. To gain public input and recommendations on how the City of Concord should spend its federal HUD dollars for the 2018-2019 fiscal year, the City will host a public hearing on Monday, March 12 at 6:00 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers located at 35 Cabarrus Avenue W. Your participation in the development of the Consolidated Action Plan process will help ensure that the housing needs of Concord’s citizens are addressed. TOMORROW! fourth annual Sun Drop Pound Cake Portrait Paint-off
The fourth annual Sun Drop Pound Cake Portrait Paint-Off will be held in ClearWater Artist Studios Main Gallery on Saturday, March 10 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. During this exciting event, featured painters are given the Challenge of live painting in a spectator-sport setting, nudging them with a short time limit and an audience, to shift how they work. Attendees have the opportunity to watch blank canvases brought to life before their eyes, by some of the most talented portrait-painters in the region. Just one more week: Rider's Concord Charlotte Express launches March 19
Rider Transit is launching the new Concord Charlotte Express regional bus route on Monday, March 19. This new express service will connect the Rider Transit Center, CFA Village/Big Lots Park and Ride, and the new Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) JW Clay Boulevard Station on the LYNX Blue Line Extension. This service, run by Rider Transit and the Cities of Concord and Kannapolis, in partnership with CATS and the City of Charlotte, will be the first all-day, seven-day-a-week regional express service in our area. It will provide easy access to and from Charlotte to provide residents and visitors expanded access to employment, medical, entertainment, and educational options. The service will launch with free rides for the first two weeks—March 19 through April 1-visit to find out more.

2018 City cemetery cleanup planned for March 19-23
Crews are making plans for the annual spring cleaning at cemeteries operated by the City of Concord. The work, planned for the week of March 19, will take place at Oakwood Cemetery, West Concord Cemetery, and Rutherford Memorial Park. In order to prepare for spring mowing and grounds work, the City requests the public’s cooperation in removing all items placed on or near gravesites prior to Monday, March 19. Any item not removed from gravesites before this time will be discarded. Flowers and other items may be replaced after Friday, March 23.
