City of Concord wins Governor’s Conservation Achievement Award for Municipal Conservationist of the Year

The City of Concord was selected as the North Carolina Wildlife Federation’s 55th Annual Governor’s Conservation Achievement Award Winner for Municipal Conservationist of the Year. The award recognizes the work of the Concord Wildlife Alliance and coordination of City of Concord Environmental Educator- Mandy Smith-Thompson in achieving Certified Community Wildlife Habitat status, the supported conservation through signing of the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge and the creation of a native plant project with a local juvenile detention facility. The award also acknowledges the achievement that the City made when competing in the Global City Nature Challenge and the partnerships with local schools, community groups and libraries. Award winners are nominated by the citizens of North Carolina and decided upon by a committee of scientists, environmental educators, and conservation activists. These prestigious awards are the highest natural resource honors given in the state.  Award winners will be honored at a banquet to be held September 8 in Cary, N.C. Cabarrus real estate and personal property tax bills mailed July 20

Cabarrus County real estate and personal property tax bills mailed to residents on July 20. Concord residents will receive one tax bill for both municipal and Cabarrus County property taxes. The County’s single-bill initiative is a cost-saving measure that streamlines the billing process and minimizes administrative overlap. Property tax bills are due on September 1 and are classified as past due if not paid before January 8, 2019. Residents also have the option of viewing their property tax bills online at the Cabarrus County website,  Since Cabarrus municipalities no longer provide tax collection services, tax payers across Cabarrus County now have a single point of contact, the Cabarrus County Tax Administration Office. The High 5 for Excellent Service recognition program’s purpose is to recognize coworkers for their commitment to the City’s 9 Principles of Excellent Customer Service. Coworkers can be nominated by citizens or fellow employees. Each quarter, the Customer Service Advancement Team selects #TEAMCONCORD High Performers from those nominations to be honored at a luncheon with the City Manager. Gridded Oil Pastel Portraits

For ages 12 - 18. Are you interested in drawing portraits, of actors, musicians, or fictional characters from film/television? Learn how to draw proportionately using the gridded scale method; as well as how to shade, highlight, and blend oil pastels to give your portraits the illusion of depth. Everyone will take home a portrait! This mini camp will meet Wednesday - Saturday, 7/25 - 7/28 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Fire Station #9. All participants must pre-register by 7/18. Fee for all four days is $70 for City residents, $75 for non-residents. More information and online registration is available at
