City of Concord to observe Labor Day
In observance of Labor Day, City of Concord offices will be closed on Monday, September 3. Garbage, recycling, and bulky waste collection will operate on a one day delay next week, with Monday’s items collected on Tuesday, and Friday’s items collected on Saturday. However, customers are asked to place all yard waste at the curb by 6 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4. Yard waste will be collected by the end of the day Friday, September 7. NC PARTF grant awarded for Henry Greenway Riverwalk phase
The City of Concord is planning one of the 27 local parks and recreation projects to receive over $6.7 million in grant funding from the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund for FY2018-19, as announced by Governor Roy Cooper. The City of Concord's award for $350,000 will assist in constructing the 1.4-mile Riverwalk phase of the Hector H. Henry, II Greenway, leveraging over $1.6 million in the City's capital reserve fund allocated for the project. The City anticipates construction beginning in early 2019 and the new phase opening to the public in early 2020. Visit for more information.

Concord Police warn against fictitious solicitation calls
The Concord Police Department has been made aware of individuals posing as detectives from the department contacting citizens by phone, threatening them with arrest unless they provide monetary compensation. This is a common scam used with many different tactics and typically those responsible call from fictitious phone numbers. For example, someone posing as an agent of the Internal Revenue Service threatening legal action unless the victim supplies monetary compensation. Just as a reminder, no member of the Concord Police Department will contact any citizen threatening arrest if money is not paid to the department or the City of Concord. Youth basketball registration begins September 1
Youth basketball registration for the November 2018 through March 2019 season will take place the entire month of September. Registration will open online on Saturday, September 1 at Walk-in registration will be available at the Academy Recreation Center, Hartsell Recreation Center, and Logan Multi-Purpose Center, weekdays in September from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The registration fee is $35 for City of Concord residents and $55 for non-city residents. Leagues are available for boys and girls ages 3-15. For more information, please visit
