Highlights of the May 9 City Council Meeting

Presented a retirement plaque to Evans "Ray" Elmore, 15 years of service - Fire Department.

Presented the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award to Budget staff (17 consecutive years).

Recognized City Clerk Kim Deason, for obtaining the IIMC Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation.

Presented a proclamation recognizing May 19 - 25, 2019 as National Public Works Week.

Received a presentation of the 2018 State of the County Health Report (SOTCH).

Received a presentation by Concord Youth Council President Kelsey Mosshart.

Conducted a public hearing and adopted an ordinance amending Articles 8 and 14 of the Concord Development Ordinance (CDO) to permit temporary food trucks in the Center City (CC) zoning district.

Conducted a public hearing and entered into a developer's agreement with Concord Master Venture, LLC for the development of a mixed-use structure at 30 Market Street SW.

Established a date to conduct a public hearing on June 13, 2019 to consider offering a contract for a ten year/ 50% tax based Economic Development Incentive Grant to Concord Master Venture, LLC for the development of a mixed use structure located at 30 Market Street SW.

Authorized staff to apply for the Novant Health Social Responsibility sponsorship in an effort to develop a pilot bike share program, with minimal investment from the City, to support connectivity to greenways, neighborhoods, and community centers.

Adopted a resolution for the City of Concord to declare its intentions to issue tax exempt bonds (secured by and payable solely from private development revenues, not City of Concord revenues) in the amount not to exceed $14,000,000 to finance the acquisition, rehabilitation and equipping of approximately 152 mixed income units to be known as Coleman Mill Apartments and for related purposes.

Authorized the City Manager to negotiate and execute a construction contract with Encompass Building Group, Inc. for the construction of the permanent Fire Station 10 on Poplar Tent Road.

Adopted the Open Space Connectivity Analysis, a 15-year plan that identifies feasible, constructible bicycle and pedestrian routes along stream corridors, through open spaces, and along roads to create a more connected Concord.

Awarded the FY 2019 Street Preservation contract to Trull Contracting, LLC.

Adopted a resolution supporting the extension of light rail and regional transit into Concord and Cabarrus County.

Next week: 600 festival arrives in Concord May 16
The 600 Festival's regional events arrive in Concord on Thursday, May 16 with Haulers on Union. Starting at 5 p.m., the streets of Concord will be packed with locals and NASCAR fans catching a glimpse of more than 30 MONSTER Energy NASCAR Cup car haulers as they make their way down Union Street en route to Charlotte Motor Speedway. It will be a free party in the streets with live music, activities for children, food trucks, giveaways, race cars on display and so much more. Don't miss performances by Too Much Sylvia at 5 & 7 p.m. Joey Logano, reigning NASCAR Cup Champion, will join us for a Q&A session with our emcee, Paul Schadt from 96.9 Kat Country, and sign autographs for the first 100 fans.
