Did you know?
Did you know Concord/Cabarrus County's first ever Juneteenth celebration event is planned for Saturday, June 29? Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. June 19, 1865 is considered the date when the last enslaved Americans were notified of their new legal and free status by General Gordon Granger who arrived in Galveston, Texas, almost 2 ½ years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
