Did you know?
Did you know that North Carolina local governments have been leaders across the United States in use of the council-manager form of government. Cities using this form of government, like Concord, combine the political leadership of elected officials with the professional experience of an appointed local government manager. Under this form, power is concentrated in the elected council, which hires a professional administrator to implement its policies. Most managers are highly-trained, experienced professionals that serve at the pleasure of the elected governing body and have responsibility for preparing the budget, directing day-to-day operations, hiring and firing personnel, and serving as the council's chief policy advisor.

Mayor Padgett honored with Order of the Long Leaf Pine and Cabarrus Regional Chamber Lifetime Achievement Award
Mayor Scott Padgett and his colleague in Kannapolis, Mayor Bob Misenheimer, joined the long list of distinguished North Carolinians to receive the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. The Mayors were surprised with the recognition Friday, January 27 at the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce annual meeting in a videotaped presentation by North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue. Both Mayors were on stage receiving the Chamber’s Lifetime Achievement Award during the luncheon when the recognition was revealed. Visit concordnc.gov for more information.
