City of Concord to observe Christmas and New Year’s Day
Friday, December 21, 2018

CONCORD – Upcoming holidays will affect some City of Concord services over the next two weeks. City offices will be closed Monday, December 24 through Wednesday, December 26 in observance of Christmas, and Tuesday, January 1 in observance of New Year's Day.

Customers in the Monday collection area will have normal garbage, recycling, and bulky waste collection the week of December 24. However, customers in the Tuesday through Friday areas will operate on a
one-day delay the week of December 24.

All garbage, recycling, and bulky waste routes will operate on a normal schedule the week of December 31.

Please note, recent delays at the landfill (due to excessive rain and muddy conditions) has caused some customers to have delayed garbage collection over the last weeks. We anticipate continued rain and muddy conditions at the landfill may cause additional delays over the coming weeks. All customers should leave carts at the curb until they are collected.

During the weeks of December 24 and December 31, extra recyclables may be placed in clear plastic bags beside your black cart for collection. Remember, paper gift wrap and gift bags (without foil or plastic coatings) and gift boxes are recyclable items.

There will be no yard waste collection the week of December 24. Yard waste collection will operate on a normal schedule the week of December 31. Live Christmas trees may be placed curbside (with stand, lights, and ornaments removed) with your regular yard waste.

No loose leaf collection is scheduled the week of December 24. Loose leaf collection will resume December 31 with the Thursday area's second cycle. The third and final cycle will begin in the Wednesday area on January 7 and continue through February 8. Find out more at

Customers are reminded that all garbage, recycling, and bulky waste must be placed at curb by 6:00 a.m. on their collection day. If items are set out after 6:00 a.m., they may not be located and collected. Customers should consider placing items at the curb after 5:00 p.m. the night before, and can visit to verify their collection schedule.

Rider Transit
will not be in service on December 25 or January 1. Regular service will be available for the rest of the holiday weeks, with the Transit Center open for passenger access to customer service, restrooms, maps, and vending machines.

The Academy, Hartsell, and Logan Recreation Centers will be closed on Tuesday, December 25, and open from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m. on December 24, December 26, and January 1. All City parks and greenways will be open according to the
normal schedule throughout the holidays.
