Paws off the grass: maintenance at Weddington Road Bark Park April 16-22
Tuesday, April 10, 2018

CONCORD – Turf maintenance planned at Weddington Road Bark Park will require both off-leash areas to be closed for seven days beginning Monday, April 16. The park is located at 8955 Weddington Road.

The maintenance is the result of the Parks and Recreation Department and Buildings and Grounds Department collaborating to improve the turf conditions at the popular facility. The park opened in late 2015 as the City of Concord's first facility with off-leash dog play areas. It has been a particular challenge to grow and maintain turf in the large dog area.

The work will include installing Bermuda sod in large dog area, and over-seeding the existing turf in the small dog area. Both areas will require a seven day closure for maximum effectiveness. The facility will reopen on Monday, April 23.

Weddington Road Bark Park features small and large dog off-leash areas, children's playground, restrooms, and a connection to local hotels and businesses via the Hector H. Henry, II Greenway. Its placement along the greenway alignment provides easy access for visitors staying in the many dog-friendly hotels at exit 49, and the park will eventually connect with many neighborhoods once the 14-mile trail is complete in the future.

The playground, greenway connection, and other facilities at Weddington Road Bark Park will remain open during the off-leash area maintenance. Our four-legged friends are invited to play on a leash in these areas or other parks and greenways. Find the one nearest you at
