Updated: sinkhole repairs at Spring Street NW and Elm Avenue NW

Update-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22: Repairs to the pipe are complete; crews are now working to refill the excavation area and resurface the roadway. Crews expect the Spring and Elm intersection to reopen the evening of Friday, August 24.

CONCORD – City of Concord Water Resources and Transportation crews have closed a section of Spring Street NW near Elm Avenue NW due to a collapsed stormwater pipe under the roadway. This location is near the Boys and Girls Club of Cabarrus County.

A detour route for motorists and pedestrians is in place and the public should exercise caution in the vicinity. For logistical reasons, construction to repair the pipe will not begin prior to Monday, August 20.
