The improved solid waste services that began this week have had an exciting start, but we want to make sure that residents understand a few key points about the service improvements.

1. Recycling is now collected every-other-week in the City of Concord, so not all households will receive recycling collection this week.
Some addresses are on the BLUE week collection schedule, while others are on the GREEN week collection schedule.  For example, this week is a BLUE week. Please note that even neighbors on the same street may be assigned different collection weeks.

To find out whether your first recycling collection will be this week or next week and whether your address is on the BLUE or GREEN week schedule, please refer to the magnetic calendar you received in the mail OR visit and enter your street address.

Please do not put your recycle cart out for pickup if it is not your collection week.

2. It is imperative that you place your carts by the street with the wheels facing your house, and that you leave at least 2 feet between your carts.

Remember, you may keep your old green recycle bin, if you like. If you do not wish to keep it, please place it inside your black recycle cart to be recycled.

3. All items that are too large to fit in your garbage cart must now be scheduled for collection.
Call the Customer CARE Center (704-920-5555) to schedule the curbside collection of bulky items, old appliances, scrap metal, used tires, and e-waste a minimum of two business days before your regular collection day. Items left on curb and not scheduled for pick up could lead to code enforcement penalties for property owners.
4. It is extremely important that you place your carts, bulky waste, and yard waste at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.
The automated garbage trucks are routed to collect your neighborhood making right turns only for safety reasons. You may observe one side of your street collected early in the day and the other side collected 1 or 2 hours later. These trucks only collect from the right side, and will not be able to collect carts placed at the curb on the side collected earlier in the day when they return.
You are allowed to place your waste curbside after 5:00 p.m. the evening before your scheduled collection day, and carts must be removed from the curb by 9:00 p.m. on your collection day. Make it a practice to put your carts and waste out the evening before to assure your waste is collected. Do not wait until after 7:00 a.m. to roll out your carts. A late roll out by the customer or leaving your cart at the curb after your collection day may result in code enforcement penalties or extra charges to return and collect your waste material.
5.  The time the collection truck comes by your house has changed.
Trucks are routed to make right turns only, and it may be several hours from the time they pick up one side of your street before they return to pick up the other side.  Many people still expect the truck to return immediately, believe they have been missed and begin to call the Customer Care Center to report a missed collection. These panic calls are causing other callers to wait 20 minutes or more to speak with a Customer Service Representative.  Please be patient and give the truck adequate time to return for your collection. Until you become familiar with the new schedule, wait until the next morning to call in about a missed collection.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we make this transition.
