Firefighters celebrate 60 years of partnership with MDA

Throughout 2014, MDA and firefighters are celebrating 60 years of proud partnership, joined together in the fight against life-threatening muscle disease. Firefighters do more for MDA and the families it serves than any other group.

In the Concord area, they spend countless hours every year participating in Fill the Boot drives and at MDA Summer Camp. "We're grateful for the support of these inspiring, selfless individuals who have made a profound impact on our families’ health, wellbeing and quality of life," said Barbara Hawk, MDA Fundraising Coordinator.

Recently retired Concord Fire Captain RD Faggart has led Concord Firefighters in the fight against muscle diseases. Pictured below, he was honored this year as North Carolina's Fill The Boot coordinator of the year.

Since 2008, the Concord Fire Department has raised over $151,900! Concord firefighters raised over $30,000 in 2014 alone, which Chief Ray Allen presented on behalf of the department in June.

Firefighters also organize and participate in special events such as spaghetti dinners at MDA Summer Camp.
