2014 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Celebration Events, January 18 – 20

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is observed on the third Monday of January each year (January 20, 2014) to pay honor to Dr. King and to the principles for which he lived and died. As in years past, the Logan Community Association, in partnership with various churches and service organizations, organize a variety of educational, inspirational, and celebratory events to honor and celebrate the life and work of Dr. King. Most events as listed below are free and open to the public.
 
Saturday
8:00 a.m. - Community Prayer Breakfast, Bethel Baptist Church, Kannapolis -
Adults $10, Children 12 & Under $5
10:00 a.m. to noon and 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. - Basketball Tournament, Logan Center
1:00 p.m. - Memorial March, Forest Hill United Methodist Church (noon line up)
 
Sunday
3:00 p.m. - Gospel Fest, Price Memorial AME Zion Church
 
Monday
Noon - Laying of Wreath Memorial Service, MLK Memorial Plaza, Cabarrus Ave. Roundabout
1:00 to 4:00 p.m. - Talent Celebration, Logan Center, Concord
 
Note: Following the Laying of the Wreath Memorial Service, Cabarrus County American Red Cross in partnership with Concord Fire & Life Safety will canvas the Logan Neighborhood to identify housing that need smoke alarms.
 
 
Many volunteers, community groups, sponsors, and private donors work hard each year to bring these events to the community without any tax dollars and minimal staff support.
