Council Member Hector Henry is one of 10,000 Americans in need of a matching bone marrow donor. The Henry family and the City of Concord are partnering with Delete Blood Cancer to host a donor registration drive on Saturday, May 11 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Concord First Assembly is providing the venue at the Village Suite 15 facility, located at 280 Concord Parkway N #15.

Delete Blood Cancer leads the fight to delete blood cancer by empowering people to take action, give bone marrow and save lives. With over 3 million registered bone marrow donors worldwide, Delete Blood Cancer is the largest bone marrow donor center in the world. Learn more at deletebloodcancer.org.

Adults ages 18-55 in good health are eligible to register. The registration process consists of a do-it-yourself cheek swab and takes a total of 10-15 minutes from start to finish. We hope as many members of the community as possible can support this by joining the donor registry on May 11.

What you should know about donating bone marrow

Registering as a bone marrow donor is as easy as filling out a form and swabbing the inside of your cheeks to collect cells for tissue typing. However, your commitment as a donor is serious because one day, someone's life may depend on you. It is important to be well informed before you register. Please choose a topic to learn more:

Ways you can help

There are many ways to help save lives locally and around the United States, including joining the registry, volunteering at the May 11 event, making a monetary donation, or helping to publicize our efforts.

Register in person on May 11:
If you can, please join us on Saturday, May 11.
Register online:
If you cannot attend the Concord registration drive on May 11, you can still join the national registry online with only a few minutes of your time. As a potential bone marrow donor, some day you might be the one to save a life. Once completed, Delete Blood Cancer will mail you a do-it-yourself swab kit so you can collect your cheek swab sample at home. That is all it takes for you to help prevent thousands of people dying from blood cancer every year. Join the fight. Sign up now.

**Be sure to select "Colonel Hector Henry II wants you to swab!" on the online registration form's "how did you hear about us?" question.**

Volunteer:
A minimum of 30 volunteers are needed to staff the drive on May 11, at one of five stations: Information, Registration, Swabbing, Monetary Donation, and Final Check. Volunteers should arrive between 10 and 10:15 for training, and plan to stay until 4:00 p.m. Please consider helping in this way. Visit signupgenius.com to volunteer.

Make a monetary contribution:
Registering one potential bone marrow donor costs Delete Blood Cancer $65. Most of the expense is for processing the donor's tissue type. Because Delete Blood Cancer does not require new donors to cover this expense, and does not receive government funding, it must rely on donations from the general public to fund donor registrations. 100 percent of your contribution is used to register new potential donors so more lives can be saved.

Every dollar counts! You can make a difference at: deletebloodcancer.org/donate

We need help in publicizing the event as widely as possible to ensure a good turnout of registrants. Our hope is several hundred people register on May 11.
