Planning Commission

The Planning & Zoning Commission is responsible for the conduct of planning relating to the orderly growth and development of the City, including adequate and appropriate resources for the housing, business, industry, transportation, distribution, recreation, culture, comfort, convenience, health and welfare of its population. The Commission meets regularly to hold hearings and vote on applications, as described above, concerning the use, development and improvement of real property subject to City regulation. The consideration of these applications includes an assessment of their environmental impacts where required by law.

 

January 19, 2021 Meeting

Due to the coronavirus situation, the January 19th, 2021 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting will be conducted electronically at 6:00 PM to hear the cases (via the free Zoom Client over the web and by phone).  In accordance with State of North Carolina regulations concerning electronic public hearings, a second web meeting will be held on Thursday, January 21st at 6:00 PM to conclude the hearing for each case and render a decision.  Please use the following information to attend the meeting on January 19th at 6:00 PM and January 21st at 6:00 PM.

Meeting Time and Location

The Planning & Zoning Commission meets the third Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m.  Six members serving on the Commission are appointed by the City Council, and one member residing in the City's Extra-territorial Jurisdiction (ETJ) is appointed by the County Commissioners, and two alternate members are appointed by the City Council.  Members cannot serve more than two consecutive 3-year terms.  Persons interested in becoming a member of the Planning & Zoning Commission may submit an application to the City Clerk.
